The 1914/1918 Ehrenkreuz

Back again with another little update showing some new acquisitions. These are all variations on a theme, displaying the combination of the 1914 EK2 with the Frontkämpfer cross.

First three ribbon bars, all in different sizes and styles. Top, a ribbon bar made of 30 mm ribbons sporting metal miniature crosses, with a reverse side that has a rather "rough" appearance: Note the lack of cloth backing, the crude stitching and the ordinary safety pin soldered to the backplate. Center, a ribbon bar also made of ca. 30 mm ribbons draped in a "Bavarian" fold with regulation metal devices, i.e. only the swords for the Frontkämpfer cross. Bottom, a much smaller ribbon bar with 15 mm ribbons; more precisely, this is actually a single 30 mm strip of ribbon representing the ribbons of both decorations. (It was not unusual for ribbons of common medal combinations to be manufactured as one-piece strips.)





And here's a full size court-mounted medal mith the crosses suspended from hooks allowing them to be removed and the bar to be worn as large-sized "classical" ribbon bar. Note the metal tag bearing the name of the firm that did the mounting: Bleckmann of Celle.
