I've a feeling I already know the answer - 'NO', perhaps accompanied by an adjective or two for emphasis. The ribbon bar has a real 'been there, done that' look to it, like it was worn in the thick of things. No parade-ground soldier, that. I got the medals to accompany it as well, thought I'd throw them in to show what I'm doing.

If there is a little surface dirt/dust that can be sponged off lightly with clean warm water then you could give it a go but if the dirt is really engrained then I would leave it exactly how it is. The dirt might have come from the battlefields the soldier fought on as he wore the his ribbonbar on his tunic, why remove it? You can find clean and fresh looking ribbonbars relatively easily, why not get one that is clean.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
