    Hi John,

The makers mark is wrong, the two lines are too close together, and the cut outs are bad as well, especially around the bridge/funnel area and on the obverse the eagles head is incorrect for a Schwerin designed badge. Don't like the lapel badge either for similar reasons as yours.

    Regards, Ned.

    Hello John,
There are some things I like about this one and some things that I do not. Are there more photos available?
The font appears to be comparable with the large font examples that I have been able to view.
I don't like the frosting between the eagle's head and wing and I don't like the "flashing: under the eagles chin. The biggest thing that I do not like is the shape of the cut out above the eagle's wing right below the hinge from the reverse. I can not find another example at this time that has this "arc".
I only have a mini pin back to compare but I wouldn't have a problem with the attachment on the one you posted. It appears to have a mounting plate similar to the HJ proficiency awards which would lead me to believe that it could be original.
    Best wait for other opinions.
    Ralph.

Thanks ralph. There are too many ifs and buts to put it up on my site. The last thing I want to do is sell a fake.

Just realised that this is a zinc badge not tombak by the catchplate being utilised, which also means that the lack of space between the makers mark lines is not a problem, they were different than the earlier type. But as can be seen on this genuine zinc Schwerin piece, the eagles head (note the grimace) is different, and the cut out areas on the reverse I mentioned are totally different.

Apologies for muddying the waters, Ned.

    Shock horror Ned!!!

I totally agree with the comments, and you have shown why i called it bad in the first place, and the pin doesn't turn up at the end on mine, like it does on genuine ones

Hi John ,I agree with the chaps on the large award, it is a fake.. The "hole" where the anchor emerges from is much too week, the catch plate appears to thick/clumpy and there appears to be a casting flaw running vertically along the front of the ship. As for the small one I could not say one way or the other as I have never studied them. Here's my one for comparison. I agree with the above comments and i also think it is a fake. The font is a giveaway IMO,totally incorrect.

As for the mini,i have never seen one with that pinback reverse set up,no matter what the size.

    Cheers,Martin.

    Hi Guys,

Both of these are reproductions sold by Nicholas Morigi on The Regalia Specialist. The full-size is £15.95.
