    Adrian

Of course I admit to making a mistake. Heck, I admit to making them all the time, I usually don't post it for thousands to read, though.LOL I'm getting too old to care about the vanity of being seen as having made an error. We don't become wise without making mistakes! As I say, I make many mistakes, just ask my wife. LOL This was out of my areas of collecting interests and caught me off gaurd, is all. I am aware of the Blockade Break badge now! LOL

    Just a humble collector,
    Green

I rather disagree that is is an ugly design. It stands alone in the Kreigsmarine badges as the only (non spange) badge that does not have a trace of gilt on it. That is what makes it unique in my opinion.

As to the newly posted photos...it just proves more that this piece was cast. You can see casting evidence all over the place.

Here is my zinc Schwerin example...

I think 'die struck' is the term you need.

Correct Adrian. A 'cast' copy is when someone makes a casting of an original and then pours a ferrous metal into the cast to make a reproduction badge. They are usually slightly smaller than the original, lack sharp details and show areas of pitting.
