British Intell Corps Officers bring back group: something for everyone here

Hi Guys, since we have been talking about Veteran bring back lots over the past few days, I thought that I would share this photo with you.

This group of items was brought back during the war as part of his duties as an Intel Officer. So it was not done purely for souvenir hunting, there was a legitimate reason for it.

This group resides in the collection of the Int Corps Museum achives and it is not on public display. But I had the pleasure of examining it all a few years ago now, while helping the Museum catalogue and insure the collection

If you have sharp eyes, note the edging to the "Afrika" cuff title. Unusual and not often seen, but not unknown.

That's an interesting old group Ade.

I was told by my Dad (who went through Tunisia, Sicily, Italy and ending up in Austria) who after the war was moved to Berlin and was one of the train guards escorting the PoWs back to the East that if they were caught trying to bring back any Nazi loot that they would have to stay even longer in the army.
Of course seeing the amount of stuff (fortunately) that our lads did get back that regulation seems to have not been enforced too rigorously.

Pretty much similar was told to us after Gulf 1. But I brought back quite a few souvenirs.
I am guessing the rank may have had something to do with it.

Hi Doug, I have heard this story many times from Vets too!

This situation was slightly different, these were brought home officially as part of his job and were retained by the Army to this day.

Mmmm, I'll have to find this int corps museum.
It is peculiar that he brought back such a variety of items but not tons of it as you would imagine if it was going to be used for research and study?
I wonder if it was just a presentation to the museum post war.
Guess we will never know.

Still that is a nice bundle of stuff and a mini collection in it's own right.
