    Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone can help me identify these 2 German (badges)?

These came into my possesion recently and i have been looking on this site to verify what i have.

Now from what i have seen and read on various threads is that these could be Kreigsmarine insignia from the early Norway conflict 'Narvik'.

I have also noticed that they and many others could be fake, reproductions, etc.

They were previously owned in a small collection by a elderly gentleman who has since sadly passed, who i know fought for the British throughout world war 2 (location / dates unknown unfortunately).

Could anyone please cast their eye over them and give me their opinion?

    Many thanks in advance

    Kris.

The first is The Narvik Shield. Yours is for the navy.
The second is, I believe , is a standard army visor cap eagle.

    Both items are ok, IMO.

The pin is a breast eagle. Looking at the attachments to the reverse,
although they are broken off, it seems there was a hinge
    and catch arrangement............

The breast eagle is the type worn on the white and tan tropical uniforms. The insignia was made removable due to the fact that these uniforms required freequent laundering.

Helllo again and thankyou for your replies - they have been interesting to read.

Are there any links that someone could recommend in regards to these badges i.e - historical background, information on cleaning/restoring to preserve whats left of them etc?

I have Googled 'Narvik' and had a look a what that came up with but i have very little to go on regards the Eagle badge.

Obviously i have learnt from the kind response that this could have possibly been from a uniform that was used in a hot climate.

Sorry to sound so vague but this is a new subject to me but my interest is growing and any advice would be highly appreciated.

    Many thanks again

    Regards

    Kris.

Hi Kris, the info here is fairly accurate in this case. Just remember that many more badges were made than actually awarded.

In both cases you need to do nothing to either item. They are nice originals.

    Cheers, Ade.
