    Actually its made of "silvered feinzink" which is almost pure zinc.... and I'm not sure yet what the inscription on the back is.

    Hopefully, I can provide a little more info.

    Rob's translation of the text on the reverse is correct. The text on the circular surround on the obverse means:

    "3rd Reichsnährstand-Exhibition
    Frankfurt a.M.
    [= am Main] 1936"

    This is an Honor Commemorative medal [Ehrendenkmünze] for participants in said exhibition. They also exist for the RNS' other national exhibitions:

    1st exhibition = 1934 at Erfurt
    2nd exhibition = 1935 at Hamburg
    3rd exhibition = 1936 at Frankfurt
    4th exhibition = 1937 at Munich
    5th exhibition = 1939 at Leipzig

    Normally, the reverse bears the category in which the exhibitor participated, written in big horizontal letters in the middle of the wreath. (typical examples being "gesalzene Butter" [= "salted butter"], "Käse" [= cheese], "Tabak" [= tobacco] etc.) and has no inscription at all outside the wreath where this one has the company name.

    [The above data is as per Niemann's price guide # 2.]

    I am pretty sure that the Lanico / Niemsch company had nothing to with the manfuacturing of this medal.

    I would tend to think that this is some kind of special or honorary award to them. Maybe they were in some way involved in sponsoring or otherwise supporting the exhibition; maybe it had simply to do with achievements in the field of canning the foods producecd by the Reichsnährstand's members?

    By the way, they are still in business. See: Lanico Braunschweig
