IMO the same production as the 1970's Stalingrad shield - stamped from steel sheet that goes rusty. Adds to the "patina" but betrays it.

The "short 'M' Cholm shield" was mainly magnetic as the majority it appears were made from steel, but there are also zinc and buntmetall (possibly post war) examples as well.

The rusty finish is fairly typical if the shield was poorly stored. Although the obverse photo is NOT really good enough in definition to make a 100% certain assertion as to it's originality for comfort, I would give it a cautious "" until larger, higher resolution pic's can be shown.

However, the reverse side looks a lot better, the shape of the backplate, the shape and size of the prongs and the paper backing all look good to me.

The correct measurements of an original for reference (within a couple of thou) are 65.21mm Height x 39.46mm Width. Fakes are approximately 1.0mm smaller than this all around and are almost always cast.

    Regards, Ned.

    Hello ned,

the schield is macnetic, and the measurements are 39,4 x 65,2mm.
I try to make a better piqture of the front soon. (Need camera)

That is correct for a genuine shield. The fakes are always smaller due to the fact they are cast from an original one.
