You are right friend. It is very poorly cast.
Thank you Steve my friend , I thought I might be missing something .
Horrible. NH
I would say that this is an original tombak Schwerin that is in a very poor, corroded state.
The mainpin, including toolmarks and the catch look typical Schwerin.Feint remnants of the maker mark can be seen also.
I may be wrong but this is my opinion.
Cheers,Martin.
Why would only the background corrode ?
This is an original item , image from here , thank you to the poster .
I think you need to take a closer look at the obverse ?
I see heavy corrosion on the gun and the housing.
This badge has been discussed on another forum,as i just found out,and was deemed original but as mentioned,in very poor condition.
Cheers,Martin.
I believe the other forum had one unsure reply , from a member with less then 200 posts .
I think it's original but has been affected by intense heat at sometime and perhaps then buried in soil or sand, or even picked out of the ashes of a fire. The hardware and tool marks are as Martin states, bang on for an original Schwerin made badge. Just for interest, here's a close up of some melted brass from an old padlock I threw on a fire when burning the remains of an old shed. The similarities are startling. It's just a scenario, but I can easily imagine this badge as being burnt and buried for some considerable time before it was found.
Regards, Ned.
