Default Deutsches Kreuz in gold authentic? Help needed please.

Hello, I am new here. I have tried verifying the authenticity of this German Cross in Gold for about 2-3 years now and I haven't had too much luck yet. I was hoping someone here could verify that it is real or inform me if it is not. From what I have read, the mounting rivits on the back come in sets of 4,5,6,7,8,10. Mine only seems to have 3. I do know for a fact that the original clasp has been replaced, and if you open the clasp you can tell that the wear marks are at a different angle than the clasp that is on it, which led me to believe it is a replacement clasp.

This medal really does weigh quite a lot. Definately surprised me when I first picked it up.

Also, out of curiosity, I have seen repros going for $200 that are crappy and fake looking and I haven't seen any originals for sale yet. Is this medal considered rare and I found a really valuable medal? I paid $95 for this at an antique store. Reguardless of value, this is really cool looking

I knew that the catch is wrong, it has been replaced. I was wondering if it was authentic other than the catch. The person I got it from said that when he was a kid he liked to play with his fathers medal collection and broke the catch off. I can see if the catch is lifted up where the original was and the patina seems to be in a flat looking wide shape. Which from what I have seen could be original. It was the rivets of which really concerned me though.

    welcome to the forum
disregarding the catch, because as you said its a replacement, but the cross itself is not good IMHO. It is very difficult to judge a piece with photographs alone, and they seemed to have flashed out a bit, but from what i can see, it would not be one for my collection. There are a number of differences that i can see from known originals....sorry, just my opinion

Hi there, the hinge & pin are wrong. I can only see three rivets, there should be at least four. Depending on maker & the rivets that are there are bad. Can you tell if the badge itself is three piece construction? Also do you have any weights/measurements? Hope this helps,Stewy.

Ok, here is a well made fake to look at, but a fake non the less, worthless in my opinion. There is only one thing that stands out straight away, and that is a junkers should have 5 rivets, and not 4. There are other faults with it, but it would fool most. It originated from the Czech Republic it's a minefield out there.

Also i have attached a jeweller's copy of a DRK with diamonds. Everything about this one is correct, apart from it being made in 1970!......... cost when bought? £800. When you consider only a few where ever issued, that's when owning a copy can be rewarding (its not mine anymore)
