Sorry Cameron, it's not that easy son. Both the ones in the link are an early type unmarked 6 rivet Deschler. The one above is a later 4 rivet maker marked type.

My opinion is that if it is a fake, it's a really scary one! If so, it could easily fool some collectors as it looks very close.

For me, the silver finish on the back appears odd in that it also covers the brass rivets, I don't think I've seen that before, even on as minty a cross as this. Looking closely at the black enameling on the Swastika, it appears sloppy and unevenly finished around the edges of the cross, leaving a thick and thin silver outline. The actual silver enamel on the base the cross sits on looks pretty coarse grained to me as well.

These things make me wary, as for the hardware I really wouldn't like to say without looking at Maertz's book, and I don't have one...yet!

The case looks pretty good, but the silver cheat line is unusually high IMO, but again, it may be o.k.

Finally the photo's themselves have been taken in a clever way, mostly from odd angles and not head on and directly sideways, that makes me think they don't want folks looking to close at the rear set up.

I look forward to what others have to say, as I have read there is a very good fake Deschler (1) DKiS that's been floating around in small numbers for around 10 years, but I have yet to see one. Weight and measurement would definately help, but that's not going to happen here I think.

i'm right there with Ned on this one.

scary if fake. however, i have the same exact concerns re: the uneven enameling of the swaz and variance of thickness of the silver outline. however, i can not say that i have not seen this before on originals. it just seems to stand out more here.

the pin and catch seem sloppily soldered on. the hinge may actually be crooked, but as Ned points out, the pictures are angled in a way that makes this hard for me to see.

the line on the case does appear a little high.

does anyone have comment on the date font? especially the numeral "1"? i don't have a huge degree of expertise here but this is not the font i see here and in examples i've seen before. is this a legitimate variation?

i don't want to make a call on it. i feel like the problems i am seeing could amount to nitpicking. however, i see them. and i don't see them elsewhere to this degree.

the bottom line for me personally is that as nice as this one would be if period, i would pass.

i don't like controversy.

Whilst we're on the subject of yay or nay, I would request that m'learned colleagues cast a gimlet eye over this cross that I am seriously considering purchasing.

I am told that it the uber rare 'Bombproof' Deutsche Kreuz in Gold, and was only produced in small numbers as war material restrictions on the use of various types of fasteners quickly precluded it's full scale manufacture.

Although unmarked, I believe it was made by S&L. All thoughts and opinions are welcome.
