I agree both variants are fine. There are a couple more with variants to the wording style too

If these are indeed both accepted variations of the same award, any idea as to why they vary so greatly? I realize that there would be differences between makers, but this different?

Good observation Tom, where did the theory that the examples with the 't's being crossed all the way through were fake originate from?
I too had never heard of that and am curious about it now.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Being a fairly common award there must have been a raft of makers?
