This is something I know less than nothing about. I have just had a quick search on google and found a similar badge numbered 8244 and the other number somewhere in the 70's. The bos is identical as well so our fingers are crossed at this point. My friend has had this for years but as we know that means nothing these days. I would love you guys to let us know either way what you think. Does this pass or fail. I personally think its a fake, but await your input.

I know little about these too but I'm sure Bob Coleman can help out here.

I don't know how many variants of these there are (if any) but it differs from this one........

I won't pretend to be an expert on this award, but my gut instinct tells me that the piece above is a reproduction piece. It looks a little bit soft to my eyes, and lacks general sharpness. Hopefully, somebody will be able to give a good analysis of the piece soon enough.

    Best of luck!

    Regards,

It was my understanding that these cases were supposed to be dark blue in color with an almost 'purple' bottom interior. The case shown looks black with a black lower interior.

I'm sure that Bob will be able to clarify.

    Damien,
Is your award zinc or steel? Is it magnetic?

    Hi,
I have just tried a magnet on it and it does not stick...not sure if that makes it zinc or not though.

I thought original presentation awards were aluminium, or some other very light metal.

From a quick bit of research I can find silver, steel and zinc, the latter being the most common.
Silver and steel were award pieces and engraved, zinc were private purchase and therefore not engraved unless the wear wanted it to be.
