Ehrenkreuz der Deutsche Mutter

Article about: I have that problem all the time Adrian Nick

    Default Ehrenkreuz der Deutsche Mutter

Hi guys this is the silver cross to go with the gold and bronze I've already put up. This concerns me a bit as the lower left side of the starburst is a bit smaller than the three other areas and the left arm of the cross is smaller than the right! Is this a known fault?

Here are some for comparison . . .

    Ehrenkreuz der Deutsche Mutter

Looking at the cross and comparing it to others I would question this one, too. The bottoms of the 'T's in MUTTER usually line up with the blue enamel on the bottom arm. These clearly do not. The left arm is not the same as its opposite. The ends of the blue enamel is wider than the arm on the right... as you stated the starburst is of a different size. Hopefully an expert will chime in, but I think I'd pass on this one.

Although, even with the details pointed out, I really don't see this as a fake so much as different. The enamel looks good to me, and the white borders appear even.

I like it, not symetrical but I have seen this before with MK's

It's an original cross. If you measure the arms from the back they are of equal length. The central disc is a seperately applied piece and in this case it's been applied slightly askew leading the ey to be drawn to the 'shorter' right hand arm as you look from the front.

You can find Mutterkreuz with the swastika upside down which obviously means the words are in the wrong place. Nothing really to worry about, just a Friday afternoon at the factory! I would like to find such a wonky piece for my collection.

Friday afternoon, or Monday morning, perhaps. Asymmetrical is the word I was looking for.

The central disc was located by shapes or pins.

For example the cross might be the female piece and the central disc the male piece. The cross may have a triangular recess (female) and the disc a triangular protrusion (male) which would fit into the female part . If the worker assembling the two pieces didn't line them up correctly, the disc part would be rotated by 60 degrees if it's an equalateral triangle. If the male and female parts were square then it could be out by 90 or 180 degrees etc.

There you go. A small biology lesson and some basic mathematics. If you need any further details on either, please forward your questions to big ned.
