Mmm I'm not impressed with this piece mark.
The backside looks brilliant but it is missing filed edges and the obverse side just looks like a zinc or cast piece.
I think this one needs some in depth study but it's one I wouldn't want to leap at.
Cheers

Thanks Doug, I think it must be the pics as this is definately not cast and is tombak for sure.
Light is fading here now but I will try to add better pics in full daylight.
Regards
Mark
PS It came with a lifetime guarantee from a source I consider to be unimpeachable notwithstanding the premise that everybody can get it wrong!

Hi Mark,
I think it is a case of worn dies and that cheaper white metal that they started to use early on in the war. It had a tendency to crack, split. pimple hole and so on.
If you get your loupe out and take a good look you will see that both flight bars are out of the same die.
There is only a variation of the die cutter around the tail end of the bomb.
Have a look at this pilots badge:
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/order...ker-j3-666404/
And you will see a similar effect on the metal wreath.
You could now have the maker of both of your badges (IMHO)....Well done
Cheers
Doug
