The SS 8 year medal above is a highly contentious piece, as it does not match either of the 2 accepted types that are seen regularly. There are many arguments either way to it's veracity. I will leave it to this in depth 3 page link from WAF to supply the details for and against.

This type of SS 8 year service medal is considered genuine by some, controversial by most. Personally I think it is a reproduction piece as no proof have ever surfaced to prove its originality. Not one of generally accepted originals.
