Re: Interesting finds!!! from a vet....
This vet is about 90 years of age ... Allegedly all of the items were brought back from World War II.... The fact that there is a fake in his collection just proves that some of these guys may have continued collecting after the war... The story is never a simple one.
I cannot take pictures of the back of the medals due to the fact they are all pinned to a board.
I won't be purchasing or making an offer on this collection due to the fact that the owner believes they are worth much more than what they are and also the fact that there is nothing in the collection that I can't live without. The signal flag is cool .. But its not worth buying the entire collection.

Re: Interesting finds!!! from a vet....
Sensible choice IMO. It's always good to find a vet hoard but no point spending over the odds just for the sake of it. Unfortunately all too often the vet or his family think anything with a swastika is a licence to print money. The fake within this group casts suspicions over whether or not all this was brought back from the war.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Re: Interesting finds!!! from a vet....
Sometimes people search the internet for medals, etc. When they see large
prices on rare items, they automatically think their common items
are also as rare and valuable.
I guy I work with did this very thing only months ago. He confused
a WWI British 'Military Cross' with a 'Canadian Memorial Cross'
and estimated it's value at $1,500.........!

Re: Interesting finds!!! from a vet....
Can you gents give me a value on these items as a group buy? $1200? .. as I said there is nothing that I can't live without... but Im being asked to make an offer.

Re: Interesting finds!!! from a vet....
Depends on what you intend to do with it-keep it or sell? If you're planning on keeping it, $1200 bucks would be at the upper top of the value range, I'd say. If you're going to sell it off? Offer him a grand.

The Imperial bar, post #2, 7th item, needs the two "round" medals swopping places !........Oh, and its genuine ! ... Commemorative Medal for the Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871 (Combatants), 1864 Prussian/Danish war Commemorative Medal for combatants and the Kaiser Wilhelm I Centenary Medal 1897, all on parade-mounted ribbon bar.
Prost ! Steve.
THANK YOU ... would you have any idea of value on these?
