My first impression is that this badge is not authentic because of the placement of the right wing of the eagle. The rivets seem to be little off as well. The pin set up seems to be close to looking ok but I am curious what you think...

Any more thoughts on this one?

The pin and reverse set up is putting me off as are the rivets and trimming outline of the wreath.

I believe it's a fake as well. The wreath appears wrong as said already. This particular type sometimes has a small '800' stamped on the reverse of the eagle, but not always. Note the rear set up is the same, as is the eagle on the obverse, but make an allowance for the apparent 'droop' on the beak, that's just the angle of the shot. But the real giveaway is the sharpened point of the pin, it's over done. You don't get that on other glider badges apart from this known fake.

    Ned,
Thank you for your analysis and photos for reference. I passed on this one and several others this gentleman had. He did have a good EK1 steinhaur & luck that I picked up. The good with the bad...

at first glance, the rivets on this one remind me of an Assman.

Here's an Assman glider I had.

Us and them - and after all we’re only ordinary men. Me, and you - God only knows it’s not what we would choose to do. Forward he cried from the rear, and the front rank died, and the general sat and the lines on the map moved from side to side.
