Manufacturers
Hello!
Did German medal manufacturers only make certain items? For example did Steinhauer & Lück only make medals or did they make pins and badges too? Did some manufacturers make everything or just something's? Did they always stamp there maker mark and if they didn't how can you tell who made it.
Any info would be great

Re: Manufacturers
German medal manufacturers made a variety of things from medals to badges to insignia to buckles, all sorts of things. Not all makers made the same things, for example Assmann made combat badges, SS cap eagles, belt buckles but not EKs. Steinhauer & Luck made EKs, combat awards, buckles and SS insignia. It came down to what each manufacturer was granted a licence to make. Some were geared up for ceratin things, some weren't.
Not all awards were marked, in fact I don't believe manufacturers were obliged to until 1942. Therefore, we know that marked awards were most likely made later in the war. There are exceptions of course, Juncker never marked their EK2s with a '2' but they marked their LDO pieces with 'L/12' on occasion. The did mark some of their combat awards but not others. Paulmann & Crone never marked their EK2s so were their EKs made before 1942 or did they just not bother? There are many unanswered questions.
If a piece is unmarked there are a few ways to tell who made it. Do the features match a known marked award? Does the reverse set up match know examples from other manufacturers? Did it come in a packet or case that is maker marked. This doesn't always hold true as awards and packets get mixed up over time but it is a start.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Re: Manufacturers
Thanks Adrian!
But no maker what they made each company have its own markers mark? L/10 will only be for Juncker not matter what the piece is?

Re: Manufacturers
They had different codes depending on what the product is but the codes remained the same for the company. Have a look through here and the links within.
