You asked here it is . A lovely cased version of the Return of the Memel District 1939 medal. This is a hard Medal to find. You may notice the red is a lighter shade than the Austrian and Czech counterparts.

Formans guide mentions they came with a red case
Not familiar with Formans. Just have seen plenty of threads on various forums arguing that they came in a packet and there is no evidence (pictorial or written) that they came in a red case. Too easy to slip one into an Austrian or Czech annexation medal case.
So, how about those close ups?
Here you go Glenn it's an older edition, but a decent reference and guide
I think your Formans guide might be in need of updating. I refer to the 2013 work 'The Memel Medal' by Antonio Scapini which details 11 different types and has a chapter devoted to packages and boxes.
According to Scapini there is no 'early' or 'late' issue and certainly none in bronze. The issue packages were paper except in cases of LDO order where small cardboard boxes were used.
I am quite sure your example is a 'Straight G - Type 4' by Wilhelm Deumer (according to the Scapini classification) and should be made of a brass alloy.
