Very nice I wish i had one in my collection.
Have seen them around, very interesting pieces that have been turned into a brooch.
hello
i think that is a great pece ! can some one explane the whole "these were a private purchase option." if you receved this award clould you pay for one as a brotch ?
"
If you were entitled to wear the Mutterkreuz then yes. You would be awarded a standard cross in an envelope for bronze and silver and gold one would be cased.
If you didn't want to wear the full sized cross on an everyday basis there there a plethora of miniatures and half size variants on brooches, bows, chains that you could purchase privately, as long as you proved your entitlement.
I believe on special occasions, Mothers Day ceremonies for example, you had to wear your full size cross on a ribbon round the neck.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
nice bit of information there
but did they have to wear the cross everytime they went out?
Not entirely sure on that, I don't know if it was mandatory or personal choice. I would expect though that if the cross had been awarded, it would've been proudly worn in some form or other. I believe members of the Hitler Youth were required to salute a Mutterkreuz wearer if they passed on the street etc and were expected to afford these ladies all courtesy and respect.
