    This example arrived today and I have to say i'm quite pleased with it. The patina is minimal but attractive and the ribbon smells of 'old', just the way I like them. No maker mark unfortunately.

    I seem to recall about 50,000 of these were ever awarded?

    hi glenn,
    54,900 people got this medal in july 1936.
    I like your clean example and the faded colour of the ribbon, something that is less common to find as most stay the more dark shade of red.
    If i remember correct the ways to tell the fakes are the 'pidgeon head',
    also the letters being in neat rows.
    This was because it was not machine engraved.

    I don't know if the ribbon is actually faded, i've read that there were red, yellow and orange ribbons?
