Original Luftwaffe Beobachterabzeichen in box?

Hi there,

I have this nice Beobachterabzeichen in box, made by Assmann.
Is this the real deal?
Doen anyone know why the opening in the box is so big? The medal doesn't fit right...

Hello Willem,
the badge has fairly convincing hardware, rivets and a fair amount of detail but the finish is terrible.
I have seen some pretty poor finishes on these third pattern Observers but this one is quite bad.
I haven't come across an eagle without the cut out tail so would be a harder example to find
