This has been heavily polished to look gold. The serial number is far too high for an original gold badge...plus Lauer was the only one that made them as far as I know.

Welcome to the forum. I've uploaded the photos to the forum to preserve the thread. We would ask that any images are posted direct to the forum and not use photo hosting sites.

With regards to the award, is everyone happy it is authentic?

I ask because the finish is so highly polished and although I admit I have no knowledge of polishing techniques, I would expect to see some bronze colour remaining in the recesses but it all looks like polished gold, especially in the places you would hope to see original colour remaining on the reverse, around the hinge, catch, in the back of the sword.

Perhaps it has been refinished instead of polished. It looks original to me...but definitely messed with to deceive.

I agree, definitely something not right about it.

I agree, too high a number and wrong manufacturer.

Just recieved this SA Sportabzeichen - looks like a type 2 based on the threads I reviewed. In pretty nice condition and looks like a good one to me, but I'm still learning
