It's a bit worn, but is an original type II award and ribbon.

The medal looks fine, but the ribbon looks to be a trifle on the narrow side. It should be 35mm wide? (The medal itself should measure 38mm)

Thank you both for your feedback.

The seller says that the ribbon is 30mm wide (by 76mm)... Bad ribbon?

Also says that the medal is 38mm in diameter and 3mm in thickness.

Probably added post-war. But of little matter. It may have once belonged to 1 of several different awards, but I would not worry overly about it. The medal itself looks fine.

Actually the plain cornflower blue ribbons are generic for most of the long service awards (Heer and Police for example). 30, 32,35 and even 37mm are all correct for suspension of 4 and 8 year SS long service awards. 25mm was for parade mounting and 20, 15, 10 & 8mm were for ribbon bars and civilian wear buttonholes. The embroidered ribbons seem to be the only exception where they all seem to be 37mm (early and rare) and later on 50mm wide (for example, later Police and SS long service crosses). Therefore your example is perfectly acceptable.

    Regards, Ned.

    Once again you impress me.

Thank you for taking the time to explain!

I'm happy to say that I have bought it and I will definitely try to post pictures of it when I finally get it.
