    A shame that the gilding is lost from the obverse but looks a good example to me.

    Thanks Dan. There are traces of the gilding on the obverse, but you are correct most has worn away.

    There is some discussion with Norm over this badge as it is not a completely "textbook" example in that the swastika is cut out, and the shape of the flag and eagles head.

    Everything else is "textbook". It appears to be an wartime L/56 variation as there are other non-textbook L/56 badges that have come up.

    Norm agreed that it is his opinion on the matter, and not grounds to take a hammer to it as it is only atypical.

    The edge view shows that it's been somewhat unevenly hand filed compared with the usual practise of using a trimming stamp.
