I would probably suggest someone like Bill Shea who owns the "Ruptured Duck"(The Ruptured Duck - German WWII Memorabilia / Militaria) or, perhaps, some specialist site like "The Marshall's Baton"(The Marshals Baton)

Not a messed with original standard badge I'm afraid but a total fake. This is the copy often referred to as the "Cyclops" because of the bizarre looking eye to the eagle. The inside edges of the wreath being contoured is another dead giveaway, this inside edge is always smooth.

All originals had a diamond swastika applied over the smaller swastika of the basic badge so this feature in itself is correct but in the case the badge ( and the case) are fake.

As already mentioned, these were not official government awards (though they still got listed in the Soldbuch) but a personal gift from the C-in-C Navy so only came with a typewritten personal letter on official headed paper from the C-in-C.

Here is a reverse study of an original . Check the smooth inner edges of the wreath.

Actually the vast majority of known original U-Boat Badges with diamonds did not carry the silver content mark. I have only seen one with provenance which had the silver mark. No idea why, but generally they didn't silver mark them.

The "variant" 800 and L/21 marked badge referred to in the feldgrau article mentioned in the other thread is a fantasy piece, actually made by Souval. They did a fake E-Boat with diamonds in the same hollow stamped format which is also occasionally encountered with spurious L/21 marks. Just consider- the badge was a personal gift from the C-in-C why would a retail LDO version be available to buy in shops !
The badge actually differs from the characteristics of the genuine regular Foerster & Barth U-Boat Badge but matches the characteristics of Souvals U-Boat Badge.

I have seen a believable Diamonds badge based on the Juncker design which might just have been a trial sample, but the fact is all the known authentic, verified pieces were made by Schwerin.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately This is not a genuine example of the U-Boat badge with Diamonds and I don't even think it's a genuine example of a U-Boat badge......
    Best Regards,

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

As this badge was posted several times I have merged the threads together so although the sequence of posts may not be right, the general consensus is the same.

I would ask that anyone wishing to post an item posts it just once and in a new thread otherwise we have a cock up like this when the same piece was posted several times and the same members are answering the same question several times over.

Very unnecessary and a waste of time.
    Best Regards,
