This one is a fake badge Ziggy. It bears all the features associated with fake badges marked for Friedrich Orth. Try a search on the forum, you'll find some originals and also many fakes of this type.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
There are some excellent fakes of this Orth U-Boot badge, and this is one of them imo. There are a few pointers, but the main one is the makers mark. The 'o' of the makers mark should not have the 'tail' on the top right. And the '.' (full stop) between the 'f' and 'o' should actually be a ',' (comma). That is the big tell on these fake badges.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.
Thanks a lotf or help!
