Criticism welcome too...LOL
To be honest I've never come across one of these before. Can you post a pic of the back too?
What was the award criteria for these badges?
It is an attractive medal though.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
It looks great but as Adrian asks it would be nice to see the reverse

As far as I know this was the form of the 2nd class of the Social Welfare decoration. The 3rd class took the form a medal, the 2nd class of a pinback (steckkreuz), the first class that of a neck order and then there was a breast star as well.
The pinback was worn on the left breast.
The various classes and forms can be seen here:

I spent far more on my collecting than on photography equipment so I had such a bad shot of the back I never saved it. Will try and correct that tonight. In the meantime here is another, showing the construction of the rear:Example
The award criteria were:
a. Social Warfare
b. Winter Relief
c. Looking after the Sick and Wounded
d. Keeping up with the old customs
e. Looking after the German nationals (and/or veterens) in foreign countries
hi guys,
i don't want to judge this medal as a complete fake. But i do have my doubts. The medal the most simular to this one is slightly bend and the pin setup does look a bit strange.
Also a point of interest is the overall quality. for such a rare decoration i would expect a top finish.
look at the picture to compare.
greetings
Eddy
The medal IS curved. The pictures I posted were taken at a direct angle.
I cannot see a difference between the pin assembly on mine and the one you show. What about the pin assembly is suspect to you?
As to quality I do not see anything on the item that cannot be attributed to actual wear conditions?
Just a note to move the discussion along.
There were more than one maker of these type of awards and once again there were slight variations amongst them.
Also the item I have comes from the David Littlejohn collection.
Hi kryptos,
could you post a picture under an angle like the picture i have posted. I'm sorry i could be wrong as the first picture you have posted is not that clear.
greetings,
Eddy
