Gents, I have a collection of Pickelhaubes, Dunkelblau tunics, combat gear, steel helmets, medals and other Imperial artifacts, but my favourite ?.....a humble post card, yes a post card !...a rendition of an Askari soldat in service of the Kaiser....
"The German Army is the perfectly adapted, perfectly running Machine. The difference is that the Germans are organised with a view to War...with the cold, hard, practical and business-like purpose of winning victories."
G.W. Steevens - The Daily Mail (1897)
Some very nice items!
My favorite medal (or pin) would have to be my commemorative pin for 25 years service in the Wuerttemberg Kriegerbund, for a few reasons. First would be because of how elaborate the pin is. Second, because of all the history surrounding and changes that took place in, the Kriegerbund before, during and after the war. Third, because my family originates from Wuerttemberg.
Any new favourite items to share?
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Hard to choose the favourite but maybe I have to put the most important in my collection: cased Deutsches Kreuz in Gold unmarked Juncker, heavy, 1st type wreath.
Some nice items being shown. My favorite item is the first military patch I bought many years ago when I was 18. It is a British 'Desert Rat' patch, 8th Army I think. I didn't know that at the time, I thought it was an Australian patch (having grown up watching Skippy the Bush Kangaroo)!! The dealer almost didn't sell it to me! I have had it now for nearly 30 years, the only British patch I currently own. I think that it is a WWII produced patch.
