Cool find, it's a British General Service Medal with the Palestine bar from 1945-48. A shame the ribbon is gone but still nice for free!
More info:
The British General Service Medal 1918 - 1962
If anyone would like a custom piece of artwork for your war room please let me know! I am currently doing A2 sized sketches of a subject of your choice. Either copy an existing picture or create a scene based on your brief. Details in the 'other militaria' section of the classifieds.
I also have a deac Mk1 (1941) Enfield Bren gun & Transit case for sale, mint condition. Also looking for trade offers. UK only I'm afraid.
the medal is a general service medal, the bar represents service in palestine one of a few depending where the person served (i dont know them all of the top of my head) and the engraving states service number rank and name also unit or regiment they served with.
cheers

In general, the ribbon doesn't affect the value of a medal. Replacement ribbons are easy to obtain.
Rob
awesome find
Is it from the Leicester Regiment ? - "LEPC. R".
The 2nd Battalion served in Palestine in the late 1930s.
And ... here is your man I suspect Stanley James Hughes

The undated Palestine bar is for service between 19th April 1936 - 3rd September 1939.
Very nice to find this in your shed.
