Default Assistance with identification of Soviet badge

I am new to this forum and just picked up a odd group of items. Among the German items (I was after the Wound Badge) was this screw back badge that appears to be a Soviet Red Cross badge of some type. Any assistance would be appreciated as I do not collect Soviet items.
    Regards,
    Henry

    I recognise your username.

It is a nice original badge.

Thanks Ade, Mark & axtdn. Is it a military or civilian badge, or both? It all came in the same lot at auction. The assumption might be that it all came from one veteran. Would an American GI have been exposed to this badge? Lastly, what is the average value on a Soviet item like this?
    Regards,
    Henry

Hi Henry, it is a para military badge and was also widely worn on military uniform. GI's got to pick up these via German soldiers who had in turn picked them up from Soviet POW's etc.
    Cheers, Ade.

Ade that reminds me of a story told to me by a veteran of the US 1st Division. He and his fellows answered to the sound of gun fire to find a group of GI's standing over the bodies dead German's who had been captured earlier. When asked why the Germans had been shot, the GI's produced American unit patches and other items that had been discovered in possession of the Germans. The man emptied his haversack of the German medals and shoulder straps he had collected. He said he did not want the same thing happening to him should he be captured. He said he went the rest of the war without touching anything.
