Bronze medallion 1941-1945 with helmet

Does anybody know what this is? It's about 2.75 inches across and appears to be made of bronze. Thanks in advance. rick

I tried to get a better shot of the other side. It is a date 1941-1945 with a helmet with a star over a laurel leaf.
