Article about: I have only just begun to collect Russian WWII. I have this Guard badge that I hope is WWII. Why do some have fringe on the flags? Mine does not. Bob Hritz

Hi Bill, I too love the design of these badges. There are many variations of them to collect. Here are a few of mine.

    Cheers, Ade.

Nice examples, Ade, and although I prefer the WWII issue pieces to the post war examples, like these, they too are nice.

I agree with you Bill. The 1950's era badges are still great quality.

    Cheers, Ade.

I'd really like to add an Estonian manufactured Guard's Badge to the collection. In the meantime, here is another I picked up recently. . .

Here is mine. A bit salty, but I believe an authentic GPW issue Guards Badge.

I take the opportunity to make a question: Considering the fact that the frontoviks used to wear these badges in their combat tunics , why is it that there are not many punctured gimnasterkas around? At least I have not seen many.

Did they use some method to prevent drilling a hole in their shirts?

    Regards,

    Gus
