Article about: Good day comrades, picked this up on the weekend, can anyone put a date on it, the number is 1333648.. The ribbon has plastic over it , thats why it looks greenish/yellow, the ribbon is perf

    picked this up on the weekend, can anyone put a date on it,
    the number is 1333648..
    The ribbon has plastic over it , thats why it looks greenish/yellow, the ribbon is perfect under it. Was this done by the origional owner...

    Your medal would be issued around August/September of 1944. Very nice medal.

    I have seen plastic overed ribbons before, done by the Veteran.

    Plastic covered ribbon bars were official though and were worn in the post war years.

    Nice medal.

    The plastic was added post ww2 to protect the medal ribbon.

    Here is mine. I had to replace the missing ribbon and suspension on this one. Thanks to Richie for the parts!

    Serial number is 1275837

    It is there, just very dark. If you click on the pic to enlarge it, it shows up a bit better.

    Exactly...

    I even own a pair of sergeants everyday/parade shoulder boards where a thin film of plastic/cellophane was applied over the yellow stripes to keep them from soiling...

    There exist many examples out there - including a few in my collection - where the minute concentration of red enamel has flaked off from time and exposure.
