Guards Junior Lieutenant Nikolai Semyonovich Savonenko, attested by the chief of the 3rd Section of the Military Commissariat of an illegible city, Major Kolomiets.
Thank you Auke!
Nice set you have there!
Thank you muovipillo!
i had just thought of this. is it possible to look him up on the podvignaroda?
I had a look and PN only lists a 1985 jubilee OPW (and it mentions he was born in 1926 in the city of Volchansk, Kharkov Oblast. He isn't wearing any numbered orders or medals on the photo, so the VoG Medal and the Guards Badge must have been his only wartime decorations. After the war he probably received the usual flood of Victory and Armed Forces jubilee medals.
Thank You Auke! Is it possible that the illegible city is the same as his home town? Is Major Kolomiets can be found on PN, and maybe give us a lead on what unit specificly Nikolai was attached to?
It's possible, but since we're talking about this word, anything is possible:
You would need the major's full name to identify him in PN. After all, more than 30 million people served in the Red Army during World War Two. Right now there are two dozen Majors Kolomiets.
Oh sweet Lord! That's a word?! And wow! They all have the same last name and rank. At this rate they will all have the same first name as well. Maybe one day Auke, but certainly NOT today. Lol.
