My first Order of Glory, 3rd Class, Nr. 28728, issued 1944, I believe, and yes, research is pending. I'll post it here when it arrives. . .

Yes, their awards were numbered, and, as a result, many can be researched. I will post some of my researched pieces soon.

Award Card obverse and reverse. The award card appears to indicate some very interesting facts about Comrade N. K. Svistun, namely he was in the Red Army from February, 1944 to October, 1945, but was in the war since August, 1941. He apparently was wounded February 22, 1942. I am not sure what he did from then until 1944 though. Regardless, he apparently was a Senior Sargeant and Senior Baker in his battalion, the 10th Guards "Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky" Parachute Rifles Regiment, 3rd Guards "Order of the Red Banner, Order of Suvorov" Parachute Division, 3rd Ukrainian Front. He also received a Valour Medal in the same unit December 31, 1944. These facts courtesy of my collector colleague "Rick Research" at G.M.I.C., so thank you, again, Rick!

Lastly, his citation which reads roughly, "In the battles with German-fascist invaders Comrade Svistun N.K. proved to be persistent and courageous. On April 6th, 1945, in the vicinity of the village of Fering (or may be Vering?), while dealing with the heavy enemy counter attack, Comrade Svitsen's squad destroyed four squad automatic weapons. ? has been wounded during the battle ? Comrade Svistsun personally replaced the wounded soldier and destroyed one machine gun and killed two Hitlerites, contributing to rebuffing of the enemy counter attack. Deserves the governmental award - the Order of Glory, 3rd degree, for displayed combat persistence and courage," or words to that effect. . .

Comrade Svistun's squad destroyed four heavy german MG's. The first number of ( needs better scan) the mashinegun- gunner, was wound and comrade Svistsun personally replaced the wounded soldier. So I try translate it to replace ???
