Re: WW2 Gavardiya Badge Questions
Hi Steve, they look like nice badges. I agree, one can never have enough of these
There is a Russian language book just on the subject. Although I don't have a copy. I know there are over 90 known variants of these but that is going up to the final issues made at the end of the Soviet Union.
The screwbacks look good to my untrianed eye.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: WW2 Gavardiya Badge Questions
Hi Ade, thanks for the prompt reply. The screwbacks look OK to my untrained eye also. I have heard the Estonian made badges are a fairly scarce variety. How do I tell the difference? What do I look for, do you know?
Regards, Steve

Re: WW2 Gavardiya Badge Questions
Hi Steve, Dimas and Richie have shown Estonian made ones, by Roman Tavast, on the forum. Checkout the pics:

Hello Steve ,
the reference for this type of badge is this book.
Many of these badges are no longer Screwback of origin and must be measured to know the manufacturer.
The badge Estonian is postwar it is beautiful.
Cheers
Hi Dom, thanks for the info. I am afraid if the book does not come in English it will do me no good except to look at pics
I do not know what you mean "measured" do you mean the size?
Doesn't the lettering on the back of screw device tell you who made that screw device?
I know the screw devices could be changed over time and may not be original to the badge.
Regards, Steve

Hi Ade, I read the thread, thanks, they are great looking badges. A little confused though, the silver colored screwback that says metallink, Tallin is the post war style, or late 44? Dimas says the company Roman Tavest Co. was taken over by metallink after the "war" ?

Sorry, but this is the best reference I do not know any other book as accurate!
I speak of the effect size in length / width
for each manufacturer there are several variants
Cheers
