Very nice pair. Ansestry is always a good place to start. There's another website that has the list of S.A. soldiers that were KIA. I cant remember the name of it at the moment, but ill look it up if you would like. You would have to hire a researcher if you want in depth records.

Emailed a few contacts on that site with no response. Have not been able to find anything on this pair.

What are the details on the rim? Cant read the photo.
I would be thinking; census info, grave records, newspaper searches, unit/regiment searches and Ancestry searches but I have never tried South Africa.

Aren't the records held in Pretoria? It means paying a researcher for his record unless you know someone in the area.

The African Service Medal was awarded for service outside of S. Africa and as far as I know receiving the War Medal depended on the qualifying time for various services and where served.

By the way, no rank or unit is correct for WWII SA medals.

P.S. you could try here if you like Rhino Research :: South African research specialist

Received a response. The medal pair belongs to a John Conrad Palmer. He served in the SAMC he never left the Union of SA and was discharged due to medical reasons before the wars end. I should have the scans of everything by the end of the week.
