Hello everyone, i picked this up the other day from an old friend of mine. this Bronze Star Purple Heart group belong to Sargent Joseph J. McMahon, he landed on Omaha beach with the Big Red One (18th infantry regiment) on that faithful morning. sadly i don't know why he or where he was awarded these medals (any help is always appreciated) but i do know that after the war he started a family with his wife (i assume "Millie" due to the photo) he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in 1967 by the State of New York. the group also came with his helmet with i thought was very cool, on the inside lining there are decals. on the front, a Sargent rank insignia and on the sides what seems to be a faded unit insignia that i cant make heads or tails of.

Great set of medals. The helmet liner may or may not belong
to the group as it is Civil Defence, or he was invalided out
    - it's cool anyway.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.

Hey walkwolf, do you think it's possible that he was civil defense and then enlisted?

Maybe he kept the helmet from WWII and used the liner for Civil Defense use into the Cold War?

That's also a possibility. At least it makes sense to me.
