French 3rd Zouave Regiment Badge..
The US Army's 509th (Geronimo) Parachute Infantry was awarded this badge by the French in North Africa in WW2.
Yours is a recent production badge (meaning post WW2)..

The 3rd Zuave Regiment.
The original badge was approved for permanent wear by Soldiers of the 509th Parachute Infantry. This was the first foreign (North African Theater of Operations) badge awarded to U.S. troops in WWII.

I am very familiar with this badge.. A fellow comrade in arms and great friend of mine was in the 509th..The famed "Gingerbread" men..
Of course we always argue who was better, his unit or mine, Mine of course.... the Rakkasan's, 187th Parachute Infantry
