Did your grandfather serve in France ?
From what I understand yes but would never go into to much detail. I have papers and various other small badges which I also want to check out
As I understand it ,The French government have graciously retro awarded the legion d'honneur to all those veterans that helped liberate France from the Nazi occupation from D.Day on . Your Grandfather must have served in France & to find out more about his military career will be very interesting . Although the medals themselves have no great monetary value, to your family they should be priceless, regards, Paul

I want to spend some time looking into them and have them mounted. It's something I have wanted to do and be proud of what he did. The French medal will be mounted with the picture I posted. I managed to find his number at the weekend along with many other documents which he kept. I will look into William Mitchell Dykes and see else I can find.
Thank you everyone who has helped
