I know this is technically the wrong category to post this thread because Ireland was a neutral country but it is the closest to relevance. The lone medal in the display is the Emergency Period Medal. It was awarded to all branches of the Irish Defense Forces for at least two years of service. each bar represents an additional two years. the medal was instituted in October of 1944.

Thanks! Funny story about this case. Back in 2007, I was at a local arms show and bought all the patches and nick nacks for the case. Until my 20th birthday it was the only case on display with no medal in it.
