    Default Long Service Good Conduct Medal, Crimean War period 15th HUSSARS

    This is a Long Service Good Conduct medal given to;
    James J. Chapman from Dulwich England. he was born in 1839 according to the WO97 Pensioners British Army service Records 1760-1913.

    It is marked;
    263 .Pte J. Chapman. 15th HUSSARS

    I have been unable to find any information about Pte Chapman's war service which according to his age would have been the Crimean War 1854-1856 or the Indian Uprising 1857-1859. Any help with his war records would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    I know the experts on this website are the best at WWI and WWII but is there another website where I might get some more info on this? I have a feeling this is a very special medal.

    It is indeed Victorian - commonly given to Sergeants.
    Good Conduct can also be interpreted as
    "undetected crime".

    I would highly recommend the British Medals Forum. A lot of experts and good advice on early medals there.
    Nice score!

    Thanks Steve and OZ
    I'll try that forum since I have 4 other medals I need to research also. I can't seem to find any info tying him to the 15th Hussars.

    He's on the nominal roll for the Second Afghan War 1878-1880, serving as a Private (No. 263) with the 15th Hussars.

    You should pay to download his WO97 pension record from findmypast.co.uk and that will give further details.
