Hmm could be late war with it coming up with the rations or being a survey unit 1919 possibly Russia. Stratford presumably is Stratford upon Avon home of Bill Shakespear. I have the roll for Crimea medals to the army on c.d but not the navy unfortunately.

Yes i figured as much. We also have a Stratford here in Ontario, a small town known
for it's theater, where some great Canadian actors got their start.

Correction to the Crimea - I was nearly correct ! !
    He's a ROYAL MARINE...........Photos below !

I know there are fakes of this medal around, and I've been hoping
for years this is a good one, even though some nit went and polished it ! !

    Hello, OKW.

The Medal Yearbook states a premium for this Crimea medal
(if genuine !) due to RM boat service. I've seen them for
    around $200. or so, un-named.

Thanks for all your kind help !

Check with National Archives, see if the unit War Diary is available?
Published brigade, divisional etc histories sometimes have descriptions of actions & citations
