The New Zealand War Service Medal

I don't usually collect medals but this is issued unnamed (never buy named medals)-the NZ War Service Medal was the first NZ specific medal for their armed forces, issued in addition to British service medals-the medal has a striking black/white ribbon in the NZ national colours and features a unique medal suspension in the shape of silver fern leaves, one of which is also on the reverse of the medal-the botanical emblem of NZ. Qualification was 28 days full time or 6 months part time service in the armed forces 3.9.39 to 2.9.45
