    Another pick up today.

Three wings. Two Bomber and one Navigator.

One bomber is unmarked and would love to know if anyone can ID the maker.

Very nice I've been looking to try and get a set of these myself ,I particularly like the bomber badge with the darker patina, I love it when silver does this. Is the blue backed bullion one on the tunic brit made ? Regards, Paul

    Thanks Paul

the bullion wings are theater made. And as it's 8th airforce I'm assuming they are Brit.

here is the link to the uniform. The patches are what make the jacket!!

I picked up my first three wings (pilot, service pilot and air crew) last year. After those I wanted to get them all...a tall order. These new three are just the next step...

    Nice pick ups Michael.
I was at a show yesterday where a dealer had some rare US wings
on display. I can't recall some of the brand names he was telling us
about but some of them were just beautiful. I can see your attraction
    to them.

You know this is a slippery slope. Many types, makers and variants.

I'm trying to keep it simple. Just one WW2 example of each.

    MAP,

Great looking wings.. Now you will have to get the 2 reference books by Jon A. Maguire... "Silver Wings, Pinks and Greens, Uniforms, Wings and Insignia of USAAF Airmen in WW2" and the second volume... "More Silver Wings Pinks and Greens, An Expanded Study of USAS, USAAC & USAAF Uniforms, Wings and Insignia 1913-1945 Including Civilian Auxiliaries...

These are top shelf reference books for anyone interested in US Army Air Forces in WW2..

I will continue to search the variations and there are many wing collectors on the US forum that may be able to id the unmarked wing as to what maker... There is one just like yours on Stewarts Militaria website, but again not much information about the wing...

    You are the MAN Smitty.

I will look into the books. And thanks for the links.

I got the 3 of these for around the same price as the one in the link

I still have a ways to go. Will not go into NAVY wings yet. Just USAAF

    Now I have

    Pilot
    Bomber (x2)
    Navigator
    Service
    Air Crew

    Need:

    Liaison
    Glider
    Observer
    Surgeon
    Nurse
    Engineer
    Balloon
    Airship

I do not think I will be successful in getting them all though.

I posted the one you linked over at USMF yesterday. Lots of view...no replies yet.

    Michael,
I just reached out to John (Rescue190) I think that he is still at the show.
Maybe he can get the guys contact information.

He had some impressive looking wings. some with burnished edges to
make them stand out in the light, one set was gold guilt highlights over
sterling silver. Plue he really seemed to know the history of each maker.

    Thanks Greg/Phil!

Greg: Anything we can find out would be great.

Phil: Yes...was hoping Steve will be by for his input.

I scoped up the Balfour as soon as I saw it. Knowing that the Meyers was a mid to late 40's design from the makers mark (but from what I have been told is still considered WW2), I took a chance on the unmarked example. The design is slightly different (more simple) than the Meyer but has a more robust appearance. I like the thicker bomb. It is also heavier than the Meyer.
