A recent purchase, this medal has the typical slotted brooch,
but is it actually WWII era or is it later.........?

Hard to tell, as it technically could be from a good range of years, but judging by it's appearance, I would hazard an opinion of post WWII.

That's a good example of a typical WWII silver star. The slot broach and it's stitching is correct, the ribbon bar, albeit a slide on, looks like an example that I have in my collection, and the lapel pin is the right design for the period. Good find!
The lapel pin is for a Distinguished Flying Cross.
Good catch. I mistakenly took it for the SS lapel pin because I took a quick glance before writing my answer. Still all WWII period though.
Yep!
Thanks for your interest and comments guys, and thanks
to you Rob for the correct ID of the lapel button. It came
to me this way and I hadn't even noticed this until you
mentioned it. The ribbons are quite similar and hard
to make out when reduced in size.
BTW, Love your avatar character of Stalag 17's
Robert Strauss as 'Animal'.........!

That is a beauty Steve.
That lapel pin is a tough one to call!!!

A search of the internet came up with these for comparison
to show how similar these two ribbons are:
1 - Silver Star
2 - DFC

Nice pickup, Steve!
I very rarely see WWII Silver Stars for sale.
