I received a silver star medal today that I think should be okay for a WW2 issue star as it is numbered 60622, and is in a wooden coffin case. However, I wanted to run it past the forum to see if it is indeed a good one. I kind of rolled the dice on this one and an air medal, buying them with not the best pictures. I hope I wasn't over confident in my ability to identify these.
Some things that are out of the ordinary compared to my other medals and limited experience is that the case is quite a bit more matte finished than glossy, and my other medal cases are on the glossy side. Not sure if that's a concern or just a manufacturer characteristic or just plain aging of the materials. Also, the bottom of the case is black, where the other wooden cases I have used a dark blue covering on the bottoms. The medal slot brooch itself seems to have strong guide markings where the pin attaches, and the catch and pin bases look like they may have been painted white at some point though they are now worn.
Crossing my fingers that this all checks out as a good WW2 star and case, so I can find a ribbon bar for it and call it good. Thank you so very much as always for your thoughts!
