I have seen WWII Victory Medal ribbons with a 3/16th star device. What exactly does the star denote? I know on other awards the star means subsequent awards of that medal/ribbon but I can’t imagine that’s the case here.

The Star device is seen on campaign medals to recognize multiple operations but I have never heard of them being on a Victory Medal either. Maybe someone else knows something different.

It was not authorized by the military but consensus is its veteran applied to denote combat service. I know combat star were applied to the ETO or PTO campaign medal and ribbon.
